DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email validation system used to check that an email has been sent by an authorized person or email server. An electronic signature is attached to the email message’s header using a private cryptographic key. When the email message is received, a public key that’s available in the global DNS database is used to check who exactly sent it and if the content has been edited in any way. The fundamental task of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to stop the widely spread scam and spam email messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If a message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank, for example, but the signature does not correspond, you will either not receive the message at all, or you’ll receive it with an alert that most likely it’s not a genuine one. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email message which fails the signature test. DKIM will also give you an added layer of safety when you communicate with your business allies, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the e-mails that you send are legitimate and haven’t been manipulated in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail feature is activated by default for all domain names that are hosted in a cloud hosting account on our cloud servers, so you won’t have to do anything yourself to activate it. The only requirement is that the particular domain name should be hosted in a website hosting account on our end using our MX and NS records, so that the email messages will go through our mail servers. The private cryptographic key will be generated on the server and the TXT record, which includes the public key, will be published to the global DNS system automatically, so you will not need to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this option. The DKIM authentication system will enable you to send out credible emails, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for example, your emails will always reach their target viewers, while unsolicited third parties won’t be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All necessary DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain as hosted in your semi-dedicated server account, so in case you decide to get a semi-dedicated hosting package, you will not have to configure anything to be able to use the email validation system. The domain must use our name servers so that its DNS records can be managed on our end and provided that this condition is met, a private encryption key will be generated on our mail servers and a public key will be published to the global DNS database by a special TXT record. All addresses that you set up with the domain name will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, which will make it impossible for third parties to fake any address. Both you and your colleagues or customers can take advantage of this functionality, as it will ensure a much higher protection level for your email communication.
